Ronald E. Hinton, Jr.
Ronald E. Hinton, Jr. is the President and CEO of the Allegheny West Foundation, (AWF). A product of the Philadelphia Public School System, he's a proud graduate of Muriell Dobbins High School where he excelled in academics and in sports. Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Hinton says he's proud to be able to give back to the community, and to along the way, nurture, in particular young people, to encourage them to seek higher education and to become all they can. Ron Hinton at one point in his early career was the manager and then owner of the old Five and Dime store on North 22nd Street. He's well respected for his business acumen. Uplifting the community has always been one of greatest passions, outside of family. His resume also includes some years in which he worked for the nationally respected TastyKake Baking Company. When the TastyKake Corporation moved to the old Naval Base Shipyard, it was Ron Hinton who brokered a deal that kept TastyKake giving back to the Allegheny West community for a number of years, even after they had moved. Over his career, Ron Hinton has become known as a man who knows how to broker deals with corporations and small businesses, with elected officials and other stake holders to assist him in revitalizing the very area where he grew up, as a young boy in the heart of North Philadelphia. A no nonsense leader, under his leadership, the Allegheny West Foundation owns nearly 100 low-income properties and or apartments in the Allegheny West community. AWF oversees the day to day operation of the Panati Town Hall Center on N. 22nd Street, which is on the brink of a major expansion project that will range in the two million dollar area. He's also leading the way on bringing the Allegheny West Senior Citizens Plaza to the 2200 hundred block of West Venango Street. Every summer for over the last 30 years, Hinton has fought for and won, upwards of 250-300 summer jobs for youth in the community, and despite any challenges along the way, he makes sure that the Allegheny West Foundation year round operates an after-school program for teens to ensure they're on track for a strong future as adults. Ron Hinton makes positive things happen in the community and leaves no mission incomplete until he reaches his goal. In 2013, Ron Hinton, recognizing a need for small business owners to have an affordable vehicle in which they could advertise, he created and became the publisher of the Allegheny West Neighborhood Newspaper. The newspaper is published quarterly. He also wanted to use that vehicle to tell good news stories about the Allegheny West Community.

- We always welcome volunteers for our free food giveaways.
- When we host community meetings, we need greeters at the front door and at the sign-in table. We need someone to hand out refreshments and bottled water.
- We need volunteers to conduct surveys outside in front of 2850 N. 22nd St on good weather days under a tent with a table and chairs.
- We need a computer savvy volunteer who can teach a computer 101 workshop series.
- We need volunteers who will commit to go door to door on 4 blocks, right in the neighborhood where you live, handling out a flyer around our Mayor's Clean and Green Initiative. (This would be a one time circulation of the flyer and a major help for our city).
Our Impact
During the 2020 Pandemic, the Allegheny West Foundation, alongside Philadelphia City Councilwoman Cindy Bass, PA State Senator Sharif Street, New Courtland, Blessings of Hope, the Share Food Program, and Philabundance, successfully distributed free food to over 300 families per day, five days a week, during the initial months of the Pandemic when everyone except essential workers had to stay at home. As the situation improved and life returned to normalcy, AWF continued its food assistance program. In 2024, AWF and its partners now offer food to 300 families weekly at a central location and also provide food to three local churches every Wednesday.
AWF provides low-income and affordable housing in the 19140 and 19132 zip codes, accommodating over 200 families and providing them with a place they can call home.
During the summer of 2023, the Allegheny West Foundation witnessed one of President Ron Hinton's visions come to life – the unveiling of the Allegheny West Plaza. This four-story, 45-unit low-income apartment complex for senior citizens became a reality. Another senior apartment building is planned for construction at 3030 N. 20th Street in the near future, all under the umbrella of the Allegheny West Foundation.
The Allegheny West Foundation, as a representative of the community, plays a key role in the planning of the upcoming Panati Recreation Center, set to begin construction in the Fall of 2024.
